    My Cup Runneth Over

    March 25, 2019

Three times!!!  Three times I spilled my cup of tea!  The first time was the day before Thanksgiving.  I was extremely busy in the kitchen, cooking for 20 plus people.  I had my warm and cozy cup of tea on the counter top and occasionally took a sip while working.  My house was spotless....dusted, swept, and floors mopped.  My sleeve swept past the cup and knocked it over, spilling the tea.  Did you ever notice that even though there's just a little bit of liquid in a cup, when it spills it looks like a gallon?  Tea went all over my counter top, the floor, the garbage can, and the wall.  Ugggh!!  I cleaned it up and went back to preparing the meal.

Later that day, I was preparing another cup of tea, and bumped the full cup, again knocking it over!  Tea spilled all over the counter top, under the Kuerig, and under the mesh coffee caddy.  I had to lift the Kuerig to clean under it and had to take the tea bags and coffee stir sticks and everything else out of the coffee caddy, and rinse it in the sink, dry it, and put it in place!

Yesterday, I decided to take the leftover turkey and make my hubby turkey salad so that he had a nice treat while I was out shopping.  I got the turkey, celery, onion, grapes and mayonnaise out of the refrigerator and set them on the butcherblock bar in the kitchen.  The bar has drawers and cabinets.  My faithful cup of tea was in the middle of all the ingredients.  You'd think I would have been more cautious and would have put the tea far away from all the stuff, but I didn't.  You guessed it!  I knocked it over, and this time, tea swireled around the celery, grapes, and onions.  It ran over the top of the butcherblock, and into the drawers housing the silverware.  It ran down the sides and into the cabinets where all the pots and pans are kept.  It ran onto the floor.  I just stood there, thinking, at this point it would have been easier to move!  With no other choice, I once again cleaned up the mess..rinsing the celery and onions.  Taking the Ziplock of turkey to the sink, I rinsed and dried it.  I opened the drawers, now filled with tea, and cleaned them out, and the silverware.  I opened the cabinet doors and cleaned them out.  I wiped down the entire butcherblock bar!  I cleaned the floor.....again! I then reached for the tea towel to dry everything....the tea towel that had the freshly washed grapes drying inside of it.  I grabbed the towel, and grapes rolled everywhere!  Some actually flew all over the kitchen floor!  This was getting ridiculous!  I chased rolling grapes and gathered the ones on the counter top.  After getting all of them corralled and washed again,  I finished the turkey salad, but did NOT get another cup of tea!!!

I definitely  think God was trying to get my attention!  The thought of my cup running over made me think of Psalm 23:5, where the Bible talks about that very thing..."my cup runneth over."  The thought is that a cup runs over when it cannot hold all that is poured into it.  That's exactly what God does for us!  He blesses us so much that our cup runs over!  Do we really think about all that God does for us?  His love and care for us is just amazing, yet sometimes we go through life sad, grumbling and defeated!

Listen to this: Psalm 103:2-5 tells us, "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:  Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's."  Lamentations 3:22 says, "It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not."  Psalm 108:4 tells us, "For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds."

God fills our cup to overflowing!  He blesses us in so many ways every day!  It's like my cup of tea.  It overflows and begins to spread and affect our surroundings...at least it should!  His lovingkindness and His blessings to us should spill over to those around us!!

Last night, my daughters and I were finishing up shopping at Walmart.  On our way out the door, there was a little lady in the corner and she called out to us, meekly, asking if we could help her.  She explained that her husband lost his job, which made them eventually loose their house.  They were now living in their van.  She was asking for some food.  I know that we need to be careful when we meet people.  Some may want money for drugs or alcohol.  Some are actors.  God impressed upon my heart that she was really, truly in need.  My daughters and I gave her some money for food, but didn't leave.  Food feeds the body, but God feeds the soul.  We listened to her story.  We then told her the story of Jesus, and how He loves her, and died for her....and her husband.  We gave the gospel to her.  My mind immediately went back to the spilled tea.  Tea running everywhere.  The cup was running over.  MY cup should be running over.....spilling God's love and goodness into the lives of those around me.  We prayed with her,  assured her that God saw her need, and used us to deliver His love and care to her.  We hugged her, and left.  God sees and cares for every one of the people He created....from an important dignitary, to a little old woman crouched in a corner of Walmart.

Our cup runneth over?  As Christians, God saved us, redeemed us, forgave all of our sins, will take us to heaven to be with Him forever, we are called His sons, we've been adopted by Him, He loves us.....and a million other blessings!  Part of Malachi 3:10  tells us, "prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing , that there shall not be room enough to receive it."  Yes, our cup runneth over!!!!
